Event narrative (NOAA)

Patchy freezing rain and drizzle produced pockets of icing on some of the roadways. There were multiple accidents with a fatality when a motorist rear ended a tractor trailer that was stopped due to another accident. The accidents occurred on I-40 in northern Pender county just south of the Duplin county line.
