Above average temperatures stretched from July 10th through the end of the month and into August. Several prolonged Heat Advisories were in effect, and at times Excessive Heat Warnings were needed, as temperatures soared over 100 degrees and/or heat index values recorded over 105 degrees. During this period, and outside of days an Excessive Heat Warning was in effect, Denton County Public Health reported 18 cases of heat exhaustion, 7 other cases of other heat-related illnesses, and 1 heat-related fatality.
