An upper level ridge settled over the southern plains...resulting in hot temperatures and little to no rainfall for over a week. With daytime heat indices reaching 105 degrees and nighttime temperature only dropping into the upper 70s to lower 80s, the heat affected many people detrimentally. During this time, at least one person died from the heat.
