Event narrative (NOAA)

A period of very hot and extremely humid weather began on Sunday, August 20 and lasted through Friday, August 25. The combination of heat and humidity led to heat index values of 110 to 120 as observed at numerous reporting sites in the region. The max heat index at the St Louis International Airport was 117 on August 20. A total of 87 people were seen in hospital emergency rooms between St Louis City and County.
