Event narrative (NOAA)

Frequent wind gusts of over 50 mph with Islip ASOS reporting a 54 mph gust at 6:19 am, and frequent visibilities of a quarter mile or less were reported. Snowfall amounts reported across the zone ranged from mainly 15 to 24 inches via the public, trained spotters, Cocorahs, Amateur radio, NWS employees and other sources. There were two indirect fatalities from heart issues either while or after shoveling snow in Suffolk County reported by WABC News. A third fatality was reported in Deer Park and is listed as a direct fatality where a man was found dead and buried in snow at a 55 year old and older complex.
