Event narrative (NOAA)
A combination of light snow, which developed in advance of an approaching area of low pressure, and road temperatures around freezing, created slippery conditions for motorists across portions of northern Indiana. Numerous accidents occurred, especially in portions of Elkhart county, where at least 1 fatality and 4 injuries were reported. A female driver (age unavailable) was killed the passenger of a pickup truck when the driver lost control and collided with a semi truck on US 6, north of Syracuse. The driver of the truck and semi, as well as another passenger in the truck were sent to local hospitals for treatment.
