Event narrative (NOAA)

The McKinney Wildfire started around 1415 PDT on 07/29/22. The cause remains under investigation. Initially, it spread slowly, but winds from nearby thunderstorms caused it to spread rapidly on 07/30/22. As of 0530 PST on 09/01/22, the fire covered 60138 acres and was 99% contained. 185 structures were lost, and 73.7 million had been spent on firefighting efforts. Four people were killed by the fire.
