Event narrative (NOAA)

The Monument Fire was contained on July 7, after charring 30,526 acres (nearly 47 square miles). The fire destroyed 62 homes, four businesses, 18 outbuildings, and damaged seven homes. Nearly 10,000 people were evacuated from areas south of Sierra Vista at the peak of the fire.
