Event narrative (NOAA)
Storm tide pushed water 15 miles inland from East Bay and nearly 20 miles inland from the Gulf which overtopped the barrier island Bolivar Peninsula. Debris piles from destroyed structures on the Bolivar were found over interior Chambers County. Water marks suggest maximum storm surge of 17 feet, or perhaps higher, were observed.
