Event narrative (NOAA)
Hurricane Ike resulted in an 11 foot storm surge along the Calcasieu River, slightly higher than Hurricane Rita in 2005. At least 1000 homes were flooded, including in the city of Lake Charles, Westlake, and Sulphur. Southern sections of the parish, including Black Bayou, also flooded homes.
