Event narrative (NOAA)
Hurricane Ike resulted in a 12 foot storm surge along the coast in Cameron Parish, slightly smaller than Hurricane Rita in 2005. At least 3000 homes were flooded. Many modular and mobile homes that were not elevatetd were destroyed by the storm surge. Water rescues were performed in Grand Lake and Hackberry.
