Event narrative (NOAA)

Beach safety officials say a man in his late twenties entered the water near Beach Access 51 with a boogie board just after 6 pm CDT on May 7th. He struggled to get back to shore and became separated from the board. Another man rushed in to help, but also needed to be rescued. The man that got separated from his boogie board was quickly transported to the hospital, where he later died. At the time of the drowning, single red flags were flying.
