Event narrative (NOAA)
Fire departments from multiple municipalities responded to a report of a swimmer in distress at the New York Avenue Beach in Lavallette. The individual was found partially submerged in the ocean about 25 yards from shore. He was taken to a local medical center where he was pronounced dead. Most beaches in the area are unguarded after Labor Day.
