Event narrative (NOAA)
Two swimmers were caught in a rip current along a jetty while swimming at Belmar Beach. This occurred at the jetty near 8th Avenue. Bystanders were able to reach one swimmer. Rescue crews found the other swimmer about one hour later unresponsive.
