Local broadcast media and Volusia County Ocean Rescue reported a 68-year-old woman from Cocoa Beach was caught in a rip current at around 8 PM on Saturday, June 18th in New Smyrna Beach. The incident occurred at an unguarded area of the beach. An off-duty officer noticed the woman struggling in the water, brought her onshore, and performed CPR. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she later died.
