Event narrative (NOAA)

Mission Beach Lifeguards report the rescue of two swimmers struggling near a sand bar in elevated surf and strong rip currents. A third swimmer was swept away, resulting in a drowning fatality. The victim had reportedly saved his friend from a large wave and was swept away in a rip current.
