Event narrative (NOAA)

Broadcast media reported that 3 swimmers were transported to the hospital after becoming caught in a rip current near the 800 block of South Seabreeze Boulevard/A1A on Fort Lauderdale Beach at around 6:20 PM. One swimmer, a 21-year-old male, went into cardiac arrest at the hospital and passed away 4 days later, while the other two were released from the hospital the same day.||Lifeguards had just left their stations for the day about 30 minutes prior to the incident.
