Event narrative (NOAA)

Two local residents were swimming together at Juan Ponce de Leon Landing Beach in Melbourne Beach when they became trapped in a rip current. The first victim was a 23-year-old female who was unable to be revived at a local hospital. The second victim was a 26-year-old male who disappeared beneath the water. His body was recovered the following afternoon a few miles to the north of where he went missing.
