Event narrative (NOAA)

A Baldwin County Sheriff Deputy (male, 57 years old) died after rescuing swimmers during a swimmer in distress call around 6pm on Ft. Morgan. Four swimmers needed to be rescued from the Gulf waters. Another deputy who assisted in the rescue was hospitalized but recovered.
