Event narrative (NOAA)

A 21-year old gentleman was reportedly attempting to save others caught in a rip current off the Atlantic Beach on Sunday June 18 has died in the hospital on June 19. This gentleman was among five people who were in distress when Atlantic Beach Fire Department responded to the unprotected section of the beach near the Doubletree Inn.
