Event narrative (NOAA)

A 16-year-old boy from Port St. Lucie drowned after being pulled seaward by a strong rip current and disappeared from view. A sheriffs office helicopter and water and boat patrol crews found the boy and returned him to shore. Rescuers performed CPR and then transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The death was a result of drowning.
