Event narrative (NOAA)

A 43 year old male drowned while attempting to help swimmers caught in a rip current near the Shoals Club on Station House Way. Rescue teams from Bald Head Island pulled seven people to safety but could not locate the 43 year old victim. Rescue personnel pulled his body from the water about an hour after the incident started.
