Event narrative (NOAA)

A 44-year-old man died trying to save a woman who was caught in a rip current about 300 yards north of the Dania Beach Pier. The victim along with 4 other people jumped in the water to save the woman, who according to police, was drunk. ||Winds were east at 15 to 20 mph, ideal conditions for rip currents to form. ||No lifeguards were on duty at the time of the incident.
