Event narrative (NOAA)

A 40 year old Kissimmee resident who was in waist deep water near the Cocoa Beach Pier was pulled out to sea by strong rip currents. Bystanders pulled him out of the water, but he was in cardiac arrest and paramedics were unable to revive him. Other swimmers in the area were also caught in rip currents, but either managed to swim to safety or were assisted to shore by others.
