Event narrative (NOAA)

A 70 year old tourist from Pennsylvania drowned while fighting rip currents at an unguarded beach behind the Pink Palms Condominiums at the 2100 block of North Ocean Drive in Fort Lauderdale Beach. |This was the second tourist to drown as a result of rip currents during the New Year's Weekend of 2007. Unseasonably warm weather along with strong east winds attracted hundreds of beach goers.
