Event narrative (NOAA)

Several people swimming in rough water at Pensacola Beach were caught in a strong rip current. A male visitor from Nebraska jumped into the water to try and rescue the swimmers. He ended up drowning in the rough surf and six other people had to be rescued and were taken to the hospital and later released..
