Event narrative (NOAA)

Local broadcast media relayed reports that a 27-year-old man was seriously injured after being struck by lightning on Middlebury Loop in New Smyrna Beach. The victim was doing lawn maintenance when lightning struck a nearby tree, and the lightning jumped to the victim. First responders performed CPR and revived the unresponsive victim at the scene. The man was transported to Halifax Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
