Event narrative (NOAA)

A lightning strike killed a 41-year-old man in the parking lot of the Pocono Raceway (Long Pond in Tunkhannock Township) as he was packing items into a minivan. Eight other spectators were injured and hospitalized by the same stroke. One of them was critically injured, but survived. The other seven were treated and released.
