Event narrative (NOAA)
A 38-year-old Miami man died when lightning struck him as he was riding his ATV (all-terrain vehicle) in the Everglades about 10 miles west of Highway 27 near the Broward/Palm Beach County line. His 16-year-old daughter was riding was him and was injured, although she survived the strike. The man and his daughter were headed back towards shelter several miles away as a thunderstorm approached the area, when the lightning struck the ATV.
