Event narrative (NOAA)

Hurricane Gustav affected over 600 homes in lower Lafourche Parish with around 35 homes being destroyed and 400 receiving major to minor damage. Many businesses also received damage and numerous trees and utility poles were knocked down. Considerable damage occurred from both the wind and storm surge associated with Gustav.
