Around 2 PM the US Coast Guard noticed a vessel had capsized while crossing the bar at the mouth of the Siuslaw River. The captain was pulled from the Ocean and later pronounced dead at the hospital. Wave heights at the time were generally around 5 to 6 feet with periods at 10 to 11 seconds, but the waves in the bar were breaking.
