Event narrative (NOAA)
A one-year-old boy, who would have turned two years old in two days, was left alone and restrained in the back seat of a car in Madison Heights of Amherst County while the foster dad of this child was at work for eight hours. Temperatures rose into the upper 80s by midday with the nearby Lynchburg ASOS reaching a high of 89 degrees. The boy was found in the late afternoon and pulled out of the car but was pronounced dead at a hospital due to succumbing from the heat.
