Hot temperatures up to 5 degrees above normal caused the Moderate Heat Risk category to be reached in Tucson where temperatures topped out between 100 and 105 degrees. The Pima County Medical Examiner determined heat to be the primary cause of death for seven individuals in the Tucson Metro area (six indoors with nonfunctioning A/C units and one hiking outdoors). Heat was determined to be a contributing factor in the deaths of three other individuals (two indoors with nonfunctioning A/C units but complicating factors of drug toxicity; and another outdoors with a complicating factor of other health issues).
