Event narrative (NOAA)
During a band festival at the Boyd County High School, 65 people were overcome by the heat and humidity of a late summer afternoon. The temperature was in the lower 80s, with the dew point in the 70 to 72 degree range. The sun was shining. Many of the affected band members had black uniforms and were wearing hats. Of the 65 treated individuals, 15 were taken to the hospital and later released.
