Event narrative (NOAA)
Nearly two inches of rain in one hour caused Battle Creek in South Maplewood to rise. Several boys were playing in and along the creek, and a thirteen year old boy was swept below a nearby dam. Some of the heavy rain was funneled into a neighborhood near Hancock and Third, where six houses were flooded. A retaining wall was blown out in the Swede Hollow neighborhood.
