Event narrative (NOAA)

Flash flooding occured over a low water crossing located along Riley Drive approximately 2.5 miles northeast of Sleeper. A van carrying eight passengers tried to cross the low water bridge and was swept off of the road. All eight people were washed downstream. Six of the passengers were washed up along a bank, while one person was wrapped around a tree. A 22 year old man was found dead approximately one mile downstream of the low water crossing. Two individuals suffered complications from hypothermia.
