Event narrative (NOAA)

In New Roads, One person died of hypothermia and another person was hospitalized when overnight temperatures dropped into the teens during early morning hours of Jan 17th. The elderly couple were disabled and were wheelchair bound. There was no heat in the house as they couple were afraid of using space heaters due to risk of a house fire. The coroner reported temperatures was around 20 inside their house.
