Event narrative (NOAA)
An elderly male was found dead on the floor in a tar paper shack. The temperatures in the Jackson area only reached the mid 30s the day before (January 4) and fell to 13 degrees that night. Many cities across the area had record low temperatures for January 5. It was determined the man died from hypothermia. The heater in his home was never turned on that day.
